The Smartwool Experiment

Charting the wear and tear on four pairs of Smartwool socks.

How do washing & drying methods effect sock wear and tear?

During happy hour on Friday, I shared my Smartwool experiment idea and one co-worker mentioned that perhaps it is not the Smartwoolness of the socks, but rather the process of cleaning and drying any wool sock that wears it quickly. Since this is a valid hypothesis and why-the-heck-not, I have decided to make my project more complex.  I will wash and dry the socks in different ways to see if how socks are cleaned and dried makes a difference in how long they last.  Here is the which sock gets washed and dried which way chart.

Washing and drying schedule for each pair of socks.

My apologies to the Red Sox logo.
